What is a SACCO management system?

A SACCO management system manages a savings and credit cooperative: its members, savings, share capital, loans, dividends, accounts and meetings. LoanTabs includes a SACCO add-on with member savings and share accounts, interest, dividends, meetings and loans against savings, on top of its loan book, accounting and reports.

A SACCO is a member-owned cooperative, not just a lender, so its software has to reflect ownership as well as loans. We explain the difference between the cooperative and microfinance models in SACCO vs MFI, and what to look for in a system in our SACCO management software guide.

The add-on is included in the 30-day free trial and in the Corporate and Enterprise plans, and it is switched on for you. You can see the full feature list on the SACCO and group lending page, and the step-by-step SACCO workspace guide shows how a team uses it.

Member ownership and lending in one system

Savings, shares and loans sit on the same member record. A deposit appears in your cash ledger, member savings appear on the balance sheet, and a loan can be backed by the savings a member holds.

Where SACCOs get stuck

The problems the SACCO add-on is built to solve.

Member savings tracked apart from loans

Savings accounts, share accounts and loans on the same member, with every cash movement posted to your cash accounts and your books.

Interest and dividends calculated by hand at year-end

Interest worked out daily and posted by period, with withholding tax and dormant-account checks. Dividends declared on average share value, approved, then paid into savings accounts.

AGM records live in paper minutes

Meetings with an agenda, attendance, quorum, minutes and resolutions with votes for, against and abstained, kept in the system.

Loan limits worked out from savings in a spreadsheet

A loan product can limit a member to a multiple of their savings and pledge part of each loan from those savings automatically.

How do I start running a SACCO on LoanTabs?

Start the 30-day free trial and open SACCO in the menu. A Start Here guide for your role walks through the first steps and ticks each one off as you do it: set the share price and default cash account, create a savings product, enrol members, import any opening balances, then take a first deposit and sell shares.

If your SACCO already lends, nothing changes there. Applications, approvals, repayments, receipts, accounting and reports work from day one, members are borrower records, and guarantors can be linked to loans. When you are ready, set the date interest starts and run a preview before you post it.

Your members can see their savings too. Members with customer portal access get a My Savings page showing their accounts and activity.

SACCO management system: common questions

How does LoanTabs handle SACCO member savings and shares?

The SACCO add-on gives each member savings accounts and a shares account. You record deposits, withdrawals, transfers, share purchases and redemptions, with receipts and statements, and every cash movement posts to your cash accounts and your books.

Which plans include the SACCO add-on?

The free trial, Corporate and Enterprise. It is switched on for you, and an administrator can turn it off and on under Admin, SACCO. Pro does not include it.

Can LoanTabs pay interest and dividends?

Yes. Interest on savings is worked out daily and posted by period with a preview first, and a yearly dividend is declared, approved and paid into members' savings accounts.

Can LoanTabs handle AGM records?

Yes. Meetings keep the agenda, attendance, quorum, minutes and resolutions, and the Meeting attendance report shows how regularly each member attends.

What about payroll and custom workflows?

Payroll and custom workflows are delivered as custom implementations on the Custom plan. Contact sales through the contact page to define what you need.
